How to tell the time of pregnancy? For weeks, months, before or from the fertile period? I don’t know a woman who finds it easy, at least not like that guy! For several reasons: the US has the habit of counting everything in months, the calculation of ultrasound doesn’t always match that of menstruation, and the “official” count begins even before conception. Myself, in pregnancy of Leonardo, I was crazy at first. And I have answered this question a lot of friends! So, with you, a good explanatory text to help pregnant woman who are struggling with this.
To summarize: there’s a right way of dating the pregnancy. What is the world standardization have error: include the pregnancy in maternity coats, from the first day of the last menstrual period or, to use the terms known, from the date of the last menstruation, also called a. Doctors use this measure – to be more accurate, and easier. After all, rarely the menstrual cycle is so precise, we don’t always know when ovulamos (because there is a fertile period and not a single day) and there’s a good chance of not remember when was the relationship or, to more complicated, having had intercourse on days. The longer period is more likely than people remember. Look at the explanation of the book “what to expect when you’re expecting”:
“The common pregnancy lasts 40 weeks, but as the count is done from the first day of menstruation latest-being that ovulation and conception does not occur before two weeks (if my period is regular)-you only really be pregnant in the third week of pregnancy.”
The count is made in this way help the obstetrician to calculate the probable date of delivery, more closely called DPP. This is other information that let mothers crazy. The DPP is the day you complete 40 weeks from the a, but that doesn’t mean the baby will be born that day he can come into the world two weeks before or two later.
So far I think is simple to understand. But the questions go beyond. So, I did a question-and-answer schema and, sure, some of these topics will help you:
-When in fact the pregnancy?
It seems obvious that early pregnancy is the time when the sperm fertilizes the egg, but the count pattern begins before right? So, to help in the reasoning and acceptance at the time of accounting for two weeks “the most” in the whole story, think thus: pregnancy begins when your body is preparing to receive the baby, that is, at the beginning of the menstrual cycle which released the egg that will give rise to the embryo.
-What if I don’t remember my last period?
Make an effort or use a tactic that, in my case, I always worked: try to remember if it was impaired in any way because of the cycle (ex: went to the beach, it was Christmas and you die from colic, etc). If you don’t remember it, doctors usually use the date that appears on the ultrasound, because it shows fairly accurately the time of pregnancy (differs from a few days at most). From here you can tell your pregnancy time every time I turn the week. Ex: you took the test on a Wednesday and showed 7 weeks and 3 days? You will complete the week every Sunday!
-Should I count the weeks when complete one or when I enter in the new? For example, I’m 8 complete, went into the ninth. What do I say when they ask?
My doctor says it’s better to tell the full picture. And I also think! The tip (and what doctors do) is to get the calendar, find the first day of the last menstruation and bleeding, from it, count the number of weeks with the help of the days of the week (Monday, Tuesday). If the first day of menstruation was on a Friday will be the last Friday. This will be the number of weeks of your pregnancy! Then, count the number of days left until today. This is the number of days that complement the time (example: 12 weeks and 3 days). Of course you don’t have to answer “I’m 12 week and 3 days”. Suffice it to say 12 weeks. And change to 13 when arrive Friday again! Tip: as I count two weeks “more,” if we always count on taking into account the week that we get in, we will be even more ahead of the “real” gestation, understand? Counting complete, it gets easier.
– Everybody wants to know how far along I am. How do I respond without being in weeks?
The doctor counts in weeks, period. But it’s no biggie you count in months. And have three easy ways to do this!
- Count of 4 weeks 4:00 pm: generally, a month has 4 weeks, so ready.Just don’t get confused because the pregnancy has an average total of 40 weeks, and if you’re dividing 40 by 4 will see that gestation lasts 10 months and 9! Think of it this way: the baby will be born 9 months, before you complete the 10 …
- See the probable date of confinement and use it to calculate the months. If the DPP is 02 December, turn the month of your pregnancy every day 02, and give right! In this case, just note that the first month it takes longer to close (because of such two weeks between the date of menstruation and fertilization). If you get confused, tell of front back. Ex: 02/11 = 8 months, 02/10 = 7 months and so on.
- Tip for the more “zen”: pregnancy lasts 9 moons!Look at the Moon you menstruating and count the months from it. Every time I turn the moon changes the month. Once again: see that the pregnancy will be complete at the end of the 9th lunar month, but the baby will be born over the 10th lunar month. I think that’s where that thing came into labor when the moon changes. Yeap! Not just any moon huh, is your Moon.
-If I have completed 12 weeks, I am now in the third month or in the room?
Does it make sense to say that is in the fourth month, and won’t be wrong in any way. In the book I mentioned up there, it is considered in this case that you are in the fourth month. When a baby has months, for example, we can also say that he is in the first year of his life. But the point is: you say that he already has a year? Not right? Only when he’s birthday. You know how you feel more comfortable in answering, but you can use it as a parameter. Count the weeks following the “birthday” of them (when they are complete) and the month from the same reasoning. If not, don’t be surprised if at the end (with 36 weeks) they ask you and you respond “10 months.”
-What to do if the time of pregnancy on ultrasound not hitting with a time?
Generally, the difference is small. In my case, gave 1 day in the first test and hit accurate in second! But, the common is to use the date of menstruation when the difference is less than a week, and give preference to test if the difference is greater.
Helped? Remember: there is no one way to tell the time of pregnancy, and you can and should follow the who understands how best to you. Talk to your doctor about it and get all your questions! If you still want to tweak to see what you can find, recommend two links: Baby Center and M Mother.
