Business etiquette

All brochures are in Spanish, but some business people also speak English or Italian.

Communication

Phone

According to Abbreviationfinder.org, the country code for Argentina is 0054. Public phones can be used with phone cards or with phone tokens (available at kiosks or from the phone companies). There are also a few pay phone booths. Also, most cities have telephone centers called locutorios. Telephone cards are also available in the Locutorios, with which international calls can be made comparatively cheaply.

Mobile phone

GSM 850/1900, 3G and 4G. Network operators include Personal, Claro and Movistar. Mobile phones must have GSM 1900 tri-band network technology. The transmission/reception range is good in most of the country, but there is often no reception in remote areas and in the mountains. Roaming agreements exist with some international telephone companies. In order to avoid high roaming charges, it is advisable to rent mobile phones locally from Phonerental and to purchase a prepaid SIM card.

Internet

There are still a few internet cafes in most major cities. The WiFi hotspots in Buenos Aires can be quickly found via BA WiFi. Many estancias and rural areas are cut off from both internet and telephone connections. Most hotels, restaurants, cafes and bars provide their guests with free WiFi.

Post office

Postal items to Europe take 1 to 2 weeks to arrive. The main post office (Correo central) in Buenos Aires (Sarmiento 151) is open Mon-Fri 08.00-20.00 and Sat 09.00-13.00.
